ok guys i just recently had my trans rebuilt. and i put a shift kit in it. its the HP kit from transgo. ok the problem i have right now is that, the trans will go into reverse and will go into forward gear. now i can put it in drive and the wheels will roll (its on jacks BTW) it just wont shift. but if i pull it back into 1 it will gear down.... ok so i brought this up to a guy and he said it sounds like my gov is sticking. ok so has anybody heard this and how do i fix it? where is the gov at anyways? in the VB? thanks for any help guys, i really need it.

you cant always tell by having it on jack stands, some times you need to drive it on pavement for it to shift....make sure your fluid level is correct, double check your install and drive it and see what she does.....you may have messed somethin up in the vb but, like i said, sometimes you have to have it on pavement for it to shift........and i think the governor is in the tail shaft section ( it is on a c4 ) but im not positive.........but take it for a drive before you do anything else

ok put it on te pavement today. goes in reverse fine. when i put it in drive it moves foward but when you give it gas it does nothing but revs. fluid level appears to be correct too.

well, you said you had it rebuilt. did a shop do it or what? did they tell you what all they replaced? did it have any kind of warranty? if all that is right and in order did you have any problems installing the shift kit? sounds like maybe a valve body issue assuming the tranny was done right. take the valve body into the tranny place and have them look at it.......i'm sure this is starting to get expensive but hang in there.........

its not too bad yet. actually i think the majority of my money seems to be buying trans fluid. my trans builder seems to think maybe my orifice (??) valve is stuck and he said something about an exhaust bore or something. so its comin out and goin to him 2morrow. worst case scenario is that i have another VB here, ill just swap over the kit to it and see what happens. i think i might have messed up something like a bore or something in this VB. well i didnt. i had a friend tighten it up for me while i was cleanin up and he got slap happy and tightened each bolt to like 20 ft/lbs, instead of 90 in/lbs

yeah the shift kit's for these are kinda kooky......especially drilling those two holes through the vb and then installing that goofy transfer tube. mine didnt have the video with it and i scratched my head a few times looking at those instructions. i decided to wait till i installed the vb before i put that cheesy cross over tube on and forgot it....came back from driving it saw the damn tube on the bench so off came the pan again to put the damn tube on....lol.....pain in the a@@.......it'll be worth it though when you hit 2nd gear.....it doesnt just chirp the tires it spins them, depending what rpm your doin.
i'm still tryin to figure out where manual 3rd is though....like, if im in 1st, and manually shift to d, thats 2nd, and if i leave it there it will eventually shift to 3rd, but, what if i want to shift into 3rd before the tranny wants too? do i shift it to od for my manually controlled 3rd? friggin ford i swear....
