I dropped my pan today to change the filter and oil. The tranny is in a 67 coupe, so I had to switch the linkage around also. When I dropped the pan I had a plastic plunger looking thing in the bottom of the pan. I cant figure out what it is, or where it goes! I can take a picture if needed, but its basically about 1 1/2" long and has a O-ring seal. The tip is about 5/8" diameter and rounded, while the rest goes into a small long shaft. All of it is plastic. Does this sound like something normal? Thanks guys, -Ryan

It's the plug that is installed in the end of the dipstick tube from the factory. It's pushed out into the pan when they put in the dip stick. Usually when the plug is still there, that means the tranny fluid has never been changed. Nothing to worry about. Just take it out and toss it.

I've also seen the grommet that goes on the filter connecting tube be left in the pan when the filter was changed.
