ok peoples im swapping my worn out aod to a tremec 3550. i just about have al the parts gathered up. my question is does anyone know how or where to run the 5-speed harness i bought. any help appreciated. oh also should i be able to use my stock driveshaft.

When I swapped from AOD to a 5 speed Tremec I kept the AOD harness in place but ran my man trans harness along side of the AOD harness. I pulled the AOD transmission end of the harness in from outside the trans tunnel and left it underneath the carpet. and ran the man trans harness end out the trans tunnel.

And I also used my AOD driveline with the Tremec with no problem.

I am getting ready to do the same swap. I am fortunate that I have a doner car for all the parts. Not to highjack your thread but if anyone can chime in on what I should get from the doner car for the swap before selling off the rolling chassis It would be apreaciated. This weekend, I intend to remove the pedal assembly and clutch quadrant. I really thought that that was all I would need but in the above, a wiring harness is mentioned. Is there anything else? Should I swap the computers? My car is a '91 GT w/ AOD and the doner is a '90 GT w/ 5 spd. I already have the engine and tranny out.

5-spd trans harness runs from driver's kick panel , under the carpet, and through the trans tunnel.

If you plan on sticking with the AOD computer, you don't need to swap it out. If you swap to a 5-spd computer, you might need to change the O2 sensor harness as well since they are transmission specific

Just to make sure I understand. I can stick with the original AOD harness and it will plug into my Tremic and function properly if I stick with the AOD computer?

Yes

There are 3 plugs on the 5-SPd harness....VSS, reverse lights and neutral safety sensor.

2 plus on the AOD harness. VSS and reverse.

If using the AOD harness and computer, you don't need the NUetral safety at all.

My car is converted this way...with a t-5 instead

when you did the swap did help out with overall performance alot, just wondering what to expect. i think its gonna be alot more fun. well i guess i spent $175.00 on the harness for nothing cuz i didnt plan on changing the computer...

Just make sure you only use a Ford clutch cable...I found out the hard way...and use a steeda quadrant and firewall adjuster...no upr crap!
Maximum motorsports sells a whole kit with a ford oe cable , quad and fire wall adjuster... i am running a centerforce dfx and pedal feel is no more then stock

ok thanks for the input guys,i hope the cable i got is ok. i got it from jegs seems like a nice piece. the swap is almost complete i cant wait to get my car back. the aod really sucked............
