AOD to T5 - new speedo cable needed?

I'm interested in this topic. I just bought a mustang w/ a similar swap. The guy says it has a new speedo cable but the speedometer is wrong. The faster I go the more the discrepancy. I've got a new speedo gear that I will install this weekend.

I wrote this to say I'm interested. Sorry I don't have an answer.

Never done the coversion, but I am going to say no. The speed sensor that the speedometer driven gear goes into is universal, so I would see no need to change your cable. I read that you need to reroute the cable though because it is routed through the clutch cable hole.

no need for a new cable. you need a new speedo drive gear ( depending on the year of the tranny, a t-5 will have either a 7 or 8 tooth drive gear, 83 to 89 uses one gear for a given rear gear ratio- 7 tooth tranny drive gear, 90 to 93 uses another because it's an 8 tooth tranny drive gear) and you need to re route the speedo cable to the plugged hole in the firewall ( an aod has the speedo cable going through the clutch cable hole).

speedo cable

i did the swap all i needed was the gear like everyone stated before. All the swap articles i read said i would have to modify my reverse light wiring harness for the back up lights to work i just unplugged the extension and it plugged right into my t5 tranny i have a 91 im not sure if this will work on different years though!!

I just did the T-5 swap on my car and when I got the new speedo gear for the T-5 I couldn't fasten it to the cable with the retainer clip cuz the little metal shaft the gear sits on was too long. I had to trim the shaft to make the new gear fit, but it was no big deal and definitely did not require a new cable.
