Anyone ever seen this before??

Stock 1988 AOD starter and Ford King Cobra clutch kit. There is contact between the snout and the pressure plate.

I realize i am just holding it by hand, but i tried to get it pretty perpendicular and it still appears as if it will make contact. Only way to be sure is to put it all together and turnt he engine over by hand i guess.

Do you have the stamped steel shim or spacer that goes between the bellhousing and the engine block installed? You'll need it bolted in place to make any clearance checks/measurements.

Hmm.

Do you have the correct index plate? It looks like its for a smaller flywheel.

Yup, it's the correct flexplate.

I think i might be good simple for the fact i was holding the starter with my hand. I really need to bolt a bellhousing up to it and check clearance to really tell since a search revealed this issue is not common.

SO i'll hold off until i get my new flywheel (i stripped a bolt hole putting on the clutch) and get it bolted up with a bellhousing. Then we'll see if i have a prob

if you want to check it before hand, just go to the hardware store, get some short 7/16-14 bolts (1/2 " long should work), and two nuts for the starter bolts. bolt plate to block, and then starter to plate. it does look a bit funny to me though, i just swapped my spec for a kc, and i dont remember it being that close to the teeth of the flywheel? my memory may be a bit fuzzy though, its been a couple weeks since i finally got the motor in.
