I have search the treads and could not find what I was looking for. I race my mustang in AutoCross. I have 4.10 gears and I love that gear setup. I also have a torsion drive T-2R, Man that is awsome for power. I am rebuilding my power plant and trans for next season and I need a little help. I am going to drop a 345 hp crate motor in and I want to upgrade my trans so my wife can drive it for next season with my in Autocross in the ladies division. I have seen others post that the transgo shifter kit is good but what else would you upgrade to convert a stock AOD to a racing trans? Please hlp if you can. If you got my garage you can see my Racer.

You could do a manual valve body. I dont know if it is the clutch she cant do or the whole shifting thing.

For autocross, just thinking about it logically: Big big big cooler. Deep pan, shift kit and a performance rebuild. Call trans go and ask them what they recommend for that application.

Definatley a bigger pan & BIG cooler, plus possibly some sort of decadited cooling fan for it. Could go with the manual VB for total control of shifts, and keep overdrive out until the long straights... Also add a trans temp gauge too keep tabs on the temp...

The one thing about our autocross the manual trans most of the time do not get out of 2nd. We have big courses but they are very technical, not to many straights. I will call Transgo today to see what they recomend.

Thanks

Well then you'd get even more heat since the converter is unlocked and slipping the whole time. The transgo kit is ideal if you're doing first and second gear mostly. The transgo kit's nuances happen in the 3-4 4-3 shift.

Get an alto red clutch pack, the transgo kit and the cooler. The other stuff, a+ servo, hardened lockup shaft and the kevlar band only come into play if you plan to use overdrive at all.

Which Alto Red Clutch Pack do you think I should get for my AOD?

Go here:

http://www.ford-aod.com/

Good stuff.

As long as it's open and apart, you might as well get the entire red alto rebuild kit and slap it in there. You'll be able to drive around in reverse all day long with that extra 25% holding power on the reverse drum . I was looking at

Alto Red Eagle Master Rebuild Kit for AOD transmissions.

#5-AOD. Fits AOD transmissions 1980-1990 with cast iron drum. Cost $208.00

The aod's weaknesses are mostly in the direct drive mechanisms so like I said, 1rst/2nd gear, you'll be ok with a clutchpack.
