whats the big difrence in the two?..i know the c4 is without o/d, but as far as toughness goes?. every complains the aod sucks up horsepower what are the comparsions between the aod and c4?. and finaly i have a aod stang now of course and in the next month dropping a 393 stroker which will handle the 400-450hp better?? sorry for all of the questions but i would hate to push a 12 sec car down the road if ya know what i mean.

First of all its not the HP that kills a tranny its the torgue. All of people don't realize that. An AOD is a 4 speed and a C4 is a 3 speed. I know they are automatics but thats what I call them. You can have both trannys built strong. You can use AODE gear train in an AOD its stronger and geared better. Its all what you want. I am a transmission tech. Been one for 12 years.

Personally I'd say go AoD and build it right .. If your going for a street car keep the OD and just get a hardened input shaft , also do the AODE internals upgrade as baldy said, otherwise if you just want a strip car ditch that intermediate input shaft, go to a 1 piece shaft and ditch the OD altogether (The 3/4 inch diameter intermediate shaft that is used for 3rd and 4th gear is the inherent weak point for these AODs under high torque situations.)
