I am using aftermarket shifter for AOD can I just not use the plug on the aod for backup lights and neutral saftey switch and just use the one on the shifter? Is there any ill effects on the AOD if these switches are not being utilized. It is non electronic trans. Also Think Edbert asked this but as long as the TV cable is rotaing counter clockwise we are good on it correct?

As far as the wiring goes, I made a custom harness out of bullet connectors and spare wire I had when I put one in my friends Cougar.

Edit:
Just realized what you are asking. Yes you can do it that way, the only thing those contacts do is close a circuit when you put the trans in a certain shifter position. You should still be able to use the connectors on the trans just fine because they are controlled in side the trans and you have to move the physical shifter in the trans no matter what shifter you use up top.

Going without the switch will not damage the car, there are two considerations though...

1.) Will you pass your state inspection without backup lights? The answer varies from state to state.
2.) Make sure you don't try to start it in gear, just like a manual.

==========
Regarding the TV cable...I think you are right, referring to that other thread. Both the guys who say it points up and the ones who say it points down say it moves counter-clockwise when the throttle is pressed. I'm going to bump that other thread too, I never got a conclusive answer about the gear selector shaft and if it can or cannot be rotated 180 degrees. I'm about to go work on the car and would hate to tear it open to find out I can't swap it.

You can rotate the gear select shaft. There is a roll pin that keeps it in place. Pull the roll pin out and turn it 180 then stick it back in. This is what the PA shift linkage kit had me do when I installed it in my friends AOD.

Yeah, that's the plan. My shifter is stock, my linkage rod is from Windsor-Fox, my selector lever is from Ford and came with the tranny. Someone in that other thread said you needed the PA part or one from Ron Morris to do that 180 degree switcheroo though. The one you swapped was from PA right or just the linkage?

Mine has the Ford logo stamped into it, so I'm wondering if I can swap it or not...sigh...guess there's only one way to know for sure eh?

Lets see here... its been 2 years since I did this and I do remember the PA kit comming with a new lever arm. If memory serves me correctly, the only difference between the 2 of them was the angle of the arm comming off of the shaft. The PA one was straight and the Ford one went straight up then curved a little bit. If you cut, torch and then weld the stock piece to fix the angle it wont be a problem.

You said you have Windsor-Fox linkage ? Didn't they go out of business 2+ years ago ? No instructions with that kit ?

Thanks guys Edbert my B&M shifter has the wires for back up and neutral safety so I will just wire it to my factory harness and the prongs on the AOd will just remain idle (not in use) This is the way it was done before with the hurst shifter that was hooked up to my c6. Even if they don't work my state does not inspect so I will be ok thanks again
