Stock 95GT AODE
80k miles

In drive, gets to about 2-2500rpm when it should goto 2nd and nothing happens. At about 4k rpm I feel it shifting, but kinda hangs at 2nd, like its trying to go into it, then hits third. If I am in third and gun it enough to go into second, it hesitates, seems to not find second, and goes down to first. When I move the shifter to second I get nothing. I've tested it with the AODE on and off, no difference. I haven't tried testing it via cruise control yet since my speedometer is kinda flakey at times.

Possibly related . . I've almost always driven with the AODE on, since that's the default. Now it wont go into forth gear it seems unless I turn AODE off and back on and few times.

Also possibly related . . . I've had a few times when I went between park and drive and reverse that it didn't catch, so when I hit the gas it rev'd pretty high and it'd catch before I let my foot off, so I'd get a loud thud when it went into gear. Pretty rare the 5 years I've owned it, but its happened a few times the past month. And the last time was helluva loud.

I checked tranny fluid, looks ok, and the level is good. Supposedly it was replaced last fall when I got a tune-up, but since I had it done at a shop, who the hell knows.

Do a search for AODE sensors, there's a sensor, I forgot what it's called, but it gives some people problems. Maybe try resetting the computer. If it's nothing electronics related then your clutches are probably fried. I remember when my tranny went, it wouldn't shift past 2nd, and it wouldn't go into 4th either.

Check your fluid also.Fluid will tell a lot. Is it dark and have a burnt smell to it? If so you have some bad clutches or band.If it is red and no burnt smell to it, could be an accumulator problem or a shift solenoid problem.I have not messed to much with Ford tranny's,mostly GM.I will look on alldata and post back this evening.

Even if it is a sensor - your clutches are probably screwed by now. With 80k sounds like it's time for a rebuild most likely.

First tranny in my 94 made it around that many miles I'm assuming. I bought the car with 113k and they had at least tried to put a shift kit in the tranny. I had to have it rebuilt at around 130k the guy wasn't too knowledgable about O/D trannys apparently. It made it to 160k and O/D is shot to crap. I never even used O/D unless I was on the highway. :(

I found a new guy when I moved, he seems to know his stuff a lot better, plus he was HALF the price even with an above stock stall converter. Should be putting her in Saturday..... I'll post when it's up and running.

Seems similar to the problem I was having. When the tranny was cold the rpms would shoot up and not shift into gear from 2 to 3. One shop say it was the OD servo another said it was the MLPS sensor (I think that's what they called it) was bad and they replaced it but it didn't help. Most shops had $$$ in their eyes when I explained the symptoms so I finally got fed up and ordered an Art Carr tranny.

Well I reset the computer and sure enough that worked. Only driven it a day so far, so we'll see. Sad thing is, I work on computers all day, and the first thing I do is reboot them when they have a problem! I shudda known!
