The AODE is leaking again. I looked at it today and I'll be damned if it isn't the tailshaft gasket AGAIN.

My question is....am I crazy for thinking that this leak is caused by a vibration in my stock driveshaft when on the freeway? This happened about 1200 miles ago after being on the freeway. Is it possible that the driveshaft vibration is causing the gasket to move/shift/whatever just enough to cause a slight leak??? Thanks.

Our cars suck.

I definitely am NOT a tranny expert, but I cant see a gasket moving around if it's compressed against two surfaces.

check the o-ring on the fill tube. My bids was leaking, couldn't pinpoint it and when we did his shift kit we pulled the tube to check the o-ring and it was rock hard... no more leak that I know of and that was a thousand miles ago or so...

It's the tailshaft gasket.

It's leaked twice in 1200 miles, both times after being on the freeway hitting 95+ mph. Maybe it is just a coincidence???

There are 2 seals in the end of the tail shaft. 1 metal clad seal that has to be pressed in and the other little rubber one. You replaced both?

Yes, both have been replaced. I am talking about the little gasket between the tailshaft and the trans case.

How tight did you make the bolts? I just rememberd when I rebuilt mine 3 years ago I overtightened the bolts and it started to leak. They only need to be at 20 ft,lb. I will double check to make sure.

There are quite a bit of AODE leaks around here that have gone unsolved (well, at least definitively solved)
