Aode output shaft movement?

How much movement should the output shaft have? I was replacing my driveshaft and notice that there was alot of movement.

i think there is alot of play built in (front to back) because of the way the axle is with the rear and what happens when you go over bumps and stuff

The output shaft typically has quite a bit of play (as does the input shaft on the manuals) because they're only supported at one end. Once the slip yoke is inserted into the trans, it's supported by the yoke and the tailhousing at the other end and the play is gone.
