I just bought a 65/66 cobbled coupe for $4900. It looks like somebody has welded on a front clip including the inner fender well where the VIN is located.
The VIN says it is a fastback but this vehicle is a coupe. The vehicle title has matching VIN but is titled as a 66.

The exterior and interior (66 cluster) is in great shape but the floorpan has some bondo/filler and some rust.
It has a 289 with 2 barrel carb and auto trans. It runs great and drives straight.

Would it be worth it to get an appraisal for this car for insurance? I was going to just insure it for $5000.

All feedback is appreciated!

Pictures of coupe for $4900

Capt. Dan,

I've attached overview picture of the car on this posting. I've been searching for a fastback for the last three months and have missed out on a lot of good deals since I didn't have the airplane ticket or time on hand to travel.
Since this is my first classic Mustang, I thought that a coupe with a nice V8 would be a good starter.
I've seen better cars for sale with clean underbody but most seem to require paint or other body work.
There are patches of floorpan that can be replaced on this vehicle and looked like no paint work is required. It was a bit of an emotional buy but I don't think I'll lose too much money.

Let me know what you think of the pictures!

looks like a decent ride to me. Maybe it was in an accident and the sheetmetal was replaced. Not really a big deal so long as it was done right. Most 40 year old cars have been in some sort of accident. Have fun with it.
