Are 79-86 bumper reinforcements interchangeable?

I'm trying to help my brother gather 4 eye parts for the front of his 81 notch. The PO had converted the front with a 1990 clip, and he is going back to a 4 eye. He has an 82 GT front bumper cover, but needs the actual steel or aluminum bumper behind the cover. Will he only be able to use a 79-82 reinforcement?, or will 83-86 work as well? Any help is appreciated, thanks.

i think the later ones work, i have one an i think the main difference is having openings for the turn signal lights that go under the headlights. I have a metal one an its heavy, i picked up a fiberglass 87+ one for it since the po did a aero conversion on it.

I wish i could help but when i switched my nose to the '79-82 i switched it with the bumper because it was aluminum.

Yeah from what I'm finding they seem to interchange, with the only exception of some being steel, and some aluminum. I'm guessing a Capri reinforcement would work as well. I'll keep an eye out for an aluminum unit.
