Are all aftermarket hoods created equal?

I know that on Steedas hoods, they say that you must use hood pins with their cowl hoods. My question is, do all aftermarket hoods require them , or is it just Steedas? I would really like to do a diffrent hood, but I just dont want to have to use hood pins. I know its better to be safe than sorry, but I honestly rarely take my mustang to that high of speeds. (only rare track action) Anyone running steedas hood, or any other w/o pins? Thank you for your input!

the new stangs trap large amounts of air under the hood, pushing up on the hood. a fiberglass hood should have hood pins. there is not much that holds the hood down otherwise. MOST manufacturers will suggest hood pins for fiberglass hoods.

If you don't like the look try getting hidden hood pins,, maybe you can paint them to match the hood,,, http://www.importprecision.com/aerocatch_hood_pins/index.htm this is one that i found

Thanks for the site. I like the idea of hidden hood pins better than the traditional ones.

One thing that gets me is that Saleen sells their 281SC with a fibreglass hood without the pins from the factory. So... I wonder why they are necessary if you just wanted to buy the hood. (Which I do).

MMFFF claimed their test Saleen SC's hood "didn't latch tightly" even for highway speeds. They also claimed it rattled. Would hood pins eliminate rattle? I'm pretty sure not. They would just insure that it wouldn't come loose.

it depends on the adjustment of the pins/latch/hood stops. if everything was adjusted to the optimal settings, then it would not rattle. this may take a GOOD bodyman to get it to a satisfactory adjustment.

i don't have an aftermarket hood so i don't really know if you need them or not, but now you started to make me thing if saleens hoods are fiberglass and are installed without pins then it should be alright to install it without one

I had talked with a rep from vfn. He told me that they reccomend hood pins if your going to reach excess speeds of 135 MPH. But in the next sentence, he told me that I would have to "feel out the hood". If it begins to move at high speeds, then install hood pins. Thanks for the link for the hidden hood pins to, nice.:nice:

They already had a recall on the Saleen hoods...so that's fixed now. But I'm lookin at that 3Dcarbon "boy racer" hood. Thats the only thing I like off that body kit cause it reminds me of the GT500 concept hood (which I really like)

No. They said its still being fitted for sale or some BS. So Im guessing its still under production. I contacted 3dCarbon and they were really shady about it. They acted ignorant like they didn't know what I was talking about. So I sent them a follow up email that was never returned. I really want this hood.
