Are all fuel level senders the same?

The reason im asking this has to due with my dual pump hat install. I have the 03 cobra hat and it is missing the fuel level sender and ford wont sell it without the buying the whole hat again.

Can i take my existing fuel level sender and modify the bracket to fit the new pump holder, or maybe i can modify modify the svt focus fuel level sender that i have sitting here to fit it.

Does anyone know if the electronics are the same? if so it should work then, i just need to find out if the electronics could be different.

Did anyone do this?

Fuel Sending Units Swap Out?

I can tell you that they are different between various years. What I would suggest is go to RockAuto.com, and look at the part numbers between the GT and Cobra to see if they are different. I'm talking about just the sending units, not the entire fuel pump module. I would assume they are the same. As far as modifying the sending units, I would not do that because it may cause you to get incorrect fuel level readings. If the sending unit part numbers are the same between the GT and Cobra, you should be able to swap them out. Let us know how things turn out for you. Good luck, Tommy.

the fuel level sender was available seperately, but the part number updates to the assembly. a bunch of dealers still show they have it in stock, the part number was 2r3z-9275-aa.

sorry, the above number was for a 2003 cobra, if you are looking for one for a 00 mustang its a xr3z-9275-aa

Fuel Sending Units Swap Out?

Ok, I checked out the RockAuto.com website. I'm assuming you have a 2000 GT Mustang 4.6 because you did not state that, and you want to use your existing sending unit and install it on the 2003 Cobra hat or cover, what ever the proper name is. The sending units between the two models and years have the same exact part numbers which is for a Motorcraft brand # PS93. Based on that, this should be a direct bolt on replacement.
