Are our cars factory alarm ready??

hey guys, i was just wondering, if our cars came from factory, ready to have the anti-theft system installed. i ask this because i saw an anti-theft control module for sale, and it's from 94-98 stangs, so maybe i could install it. i have a 94 cobra, and i know for a fact it was an option, but i know i don't have it(in the trunk, i just have the keyless module, what's the other open plug back there?)but i need any alarm, so i was gonna give it a shot. any ideas??

Personally, I'd go with a better aftermarket alarm. The factory one would work, but I wouldn't know if it's just a plug 'n go deal, or if there's more to it, since mine was already installed when I got the car. If the price is right, I say grab it up, just to keep the factory look, even if it does require the same amount of wiring as an aftermarket one.

I am with Matt. The aftermarket units offer a LOT more features. If going through the hassle of an install, I would go aftermarket. Now if this really is as simple as installing a module and having a factory alarm, that might be worth doing...........

If im not mistaken, and i might be, i believe the other box that goes there if for the PATS system. I believe those were used in the 96+ stangs with the encoded keys.

If not, then you could go to any local junkyard that has mustangs, and grab one off of there. I have seen later models, 96+, with them, but never any 94-95s.

humm..... sounds good, it seems aftermarket is much better. are there any suggestions out there. i'm out of work right now, so $$ is tight, so any "value" alarms out there. it doesn't need to be the greatest, i live in tiny-ass rhode island, everone knows me here and no one in hell would brake in my car, but i need a decent alarm so my insurance will go down. thanks

I had a bulldog one in a previous car. It was cheap, something like 50 bux, and it seemed to be pretty well put together. I believe that bulldog is a reputable company.

You cant go too far wrong with any DEI stuff really. As TD mentioned, the Viper line is good, but others are less costly.

KNowing what features you want and if you will do the install yourself (or with a friend. Read: not having a shop do it - they can be picky about you supplying the alarm) would help. Stuff like Keyless entry, Number of programmable outputs,etc is good info to have.

Now if you really dont care all that much, anything out there is probably alright. I am not a fan of the real cheap ebay stuff but that might just be me.

Shane (Loudtoy) is VERY conversant with products (bang for the buck, etc). If you are really interested, getting his input might be smart.

Good luck with the decision and sorry to not know more about the factory stuff (I can see your angle on wanting to have used it now. Your logic makes sense to me).

Even if you did get a good deal on the factory "crap" I would not use it. Those factory systems are not worth the money or time. Definiately go aftermarket. Check out Circuit City or Best Buy. You want a big chain store to do the install if you will farm the job out and not some local small town company because if you are away from home you can more likely than not find the big chain store company and get service from the big chain stores rather than wait to get back home. Oh it's not necessarily where you live it's where you visit where the thieves may attack your car. Just One Man's Opinion. Peace

thanks guys. i'm willing to spend like tops 140 for it, but rather spend less. the last thing i want to do tho is get one that can mess up the car's electronics, so maybe there's a "lowwer end" DEI out there or something?

Just lie and tell the insurance company you have an alarm. Alarms are useless IMO. If you want security, get it lojacked.

tht's what i've done for 2 years, but i think they want me to go to another inspection place, so just in case.... better safe than sorry when i get it cheaper by 100's a year
