Are repainted hoods more likely to chip?

I had my hood repainted after an incident with some free flying plywood from a truck bed.

It now seems more likely to mar and chip from rocks. Is this normal? I talked to a paint guy at a local shop and he said this is true because during repairs they do not normally sand existing paint completely off, therefore there is a build-up of paint which is easier to nick. ???

yes thats normal, you shoulda got a clear bra... I think the reason is because non-factory paint isn't baked? I dunno.

If I have the option, newly painted pieces don't grace my car for almost a month.

Yep, re-painted parts will have problems. When I got my car, it had had the hood re-painted from where it had been egged by some kids. I made the mistake of polishing and waxing it with an orbital buffer and now it looks worse than it did before that. Swirls everywhere

My experiences are-no problems with a quality paint job-schlock jobs yes.
My Wranglers hood was painted 3 years ago and still looks good. I had paint work done on other cars that peeled in a year. If the quality is there it should look and hold up as well as the original paint. If the preparation was rushed or short-cut..the job will fail.

Repainted cars will always have problems eventually. You can't get much better than factory paint without paying sh1t loads of money.

yes it cost money, but if done right no you shouldnt have any more issues than factory. with a good prep job and the right amount of hardener you should be as good as factory.
