Are there disadvantages to rim sizes?

weight, traction, tire prices. extra cost for low profile tires to be mounted, lack of tire options, potholes being even less fun. if you get too close to a curb a better chance of more of your rim to be destroyed.

these cars look good with wheels from 15-20 inches. depending on the wheel design.

for a set of street wheels with streets that aren't so good, i'd go with 18s.

i can't say 20s look better, because my favorite set of wheels i've seen on these cars happen to be 15s. haha. but of course this is all a matter of opinion.

18s would be my next choice, because 17s look a hair too small, and theres just alot more options for tires out there in 18s.

20 inch drag radial from Nitto, 305/35/20. 389$.
15 inch drag radial from Nitto, 275/60/15. 159$.
18 inch drag radial from Nitto, 305/35/18. 285$.

just a few examples. its a matter of taste though.

what are the options for 15 inch? Do you still have to do a hella modification to get 15 inch wheels to fit?

Evenually I want to switch over to 15inch skinnies and 15inch mickey T's out back on like a good wheel for racing but i have no idea whats out their that is available for our cars without doing modifying to get it to fit, right now im rocking out the stock 17's and M&H drag radials on 17inch bullits, hell id at least like to get a 15 inch skinny on front for racing.. :D

screw 20's unless you just care about style points.

i'll be ordering a rear 15x8 wheel this friday, fronts will work with a 3/8 spacer.

you might have to relocate the rear swaybar, i know you do for 15x10s.

weld xps will fit, jegs sport stars will fit, wholeshots will fit, and bogarts will fit.

the rear is the only one i'm not 100% on. i have test fit the fronts with no problems.

i've seen people run the jegs sport stars with just a little grinding on the rear caliper. i'm going to try a small spacer.

sick dude let me know how it turns out and provide pics ; )

So your saying i should be able to run the front w/ 15x8 wheel and 3/8 spacer? What tires are you wrapping on the front runners?

Do you think 15 inch rims on the front w/ runners and 17inchs w/ my drag radials on back would be a problem ?

i don't think you could run a 15x8 up front without alot of modification to the brakes could be wrong though.

i'm going to be running a 15x4.

i'm waiting for my 165/15s to come in, they are kumhos. basically old volkswagen bug tires. alot of people run these for front tires for street use when running skinnies. 45 bucks a piece. vs the 120 or so for front runners.

i've heard of people running 15x4s with a 1/4 inch spacer and a little grinding, i didn't want to grind at all and i know a 3/8 spacer will be enough so thats what i went with. test fit the wheel and once i tried it in the light i got them to fit no rubbing or anything.

talking to a guy at the corral right now finding out about his wheels, hes got a prostar style wheel with a 15x8 in the rear and i think he said he just grinded down the caliper a little bit and he didn't have to relocate the swaybar, trying to get more information on that.

i don't see a reason you'd have a problem running 17s in the rear and 15s up front. but your going to lose some ride quality. its going to take you more time to slow down with a skinny tire up front, and turns aren't going to be too fun at higher speeds.

'll definitely post pictures when i get them on, tire rack isn't expecting my tires to get to the delaware tire rack until the 8th i believe. the local speed shop called around and said they make the tires as they sell them, so these tires should be right off the lot at kumho not some old dry rotted tires haha.

so with that being said i think i'll probably have one rear wheel to start test fitting around the same time as i get my front tires. so i can mess with a few different spacers. then the 23rd i should be ordering the other rear rim and both tires for the back.

thats cool i was wondering for track usage only.

I wonder what would be a good sized front rim and tire combo then without doing any modifying up front.

Also wondering if they have 17inch rim for front runners? *shrug*

this was a lot easier when I had my FOX!!! i dont have money for awhile anyway.. :(

i was actually thinking of going with the greg weld 17s dragstars originally for the front.

as far as i'm aware the racelite 17s will bolt right up i was going to go with a set of them but i wanted them for a good drag set up and i wanted more sidewall.

they make em in 17, 18s, and 20s.

Only *REAL* disadvantage to 20's is the price.

If any of you ever owned an sn95 with 18"s the ride quality is the EXACT same, i cannot tell the difference.

Reason i went with 20's on my GT is lets face it, to me it looks better. Not to mention im not one of these tards that stares in the rear view mirror just waiting for someone to race on the street. If i want to race, i'll bolt up my drag wheels and go have fun at the track safely.

If you want 20's and think they look good, get them. If price is holding you back on tires, then i say you should look at the 18's. Ride quality is not that much different.

20" inch wheels increase rotational mass and size and therefore kills acceleration and fuel mileage. As far hitting potholes and curbs: it all depends on the tire size you run. You don't HAVE to run 30 series tires on S197's just because they have 20's.

I have 20's on my car, and I'm running 245/45 up front, and 275/40 in the rear. The tall tire fills up the fenderwell, and it protects the wheels from potholes/curbs. The tall tire gives the car a smooth ride, too. The downside to the tall tire, it kills your gear. My 3.73s are like 3.55s with these tall tires. With a set of 4.10s, you wouldn't feel the extra weight of the 20" wheel/tire combo, but your car would still be faster with the smaller, lighter wheel size.

I get little to no rubbing with my tires, unless I have 2+ people in the car, and I make a sharp turn. Even then, it'll rub for a split second.

It's really a matter of taste and what is important to you. If you want low E/T's, go with the smallest, lightest wheel you can fit. I like the look of 20's, so I went that route. Tires do get more expensive the bigger you go, so that's one thing to keep in mind.
