I'm tearing down some PI cylinder heads for a friend, so I can send them to the shop tomorrow to be cleaned, magnafluxed, and checked for warping. I noticed that these two spots where the cam sits are REALLY torn up. It's just bad on this one head, too. The other head is perfect. In fact, the other head was relatively clean, while this head came all slimy and smelly. They both have 9 holes on them for valve cover bolts, so I assume they are both Romeos. Can that cam thing be machined out, or should I even bother taking these tomorrow? It's pretty rough, and the cam that came off has some streaks on it on the two bearings. What should I do? Here's some crappy cellphone pictures of what I am talking about.

just so people know, that hole is supposed to be there. It's in each journal for lubrication. Dont know the answer for you, but do know those have to match the cam exactly - most say if you bust a cam tower/cap that you might even have to buy a new head cuz they are machined on head to fit the cam (two half circles). But i dunno how one will effect the balance of rotation
