are unmatched used lifters and camshaft a problem?

If you have either a used camshaft or used lifters (or both), do they develop a matching wear pattern, lifter for lifter per each lobe? Is maintaining this important (labeling each lifter removed as to reassociate it with its mating lobe)?

Is it one of those, "it's good to do, but not real important" kind of things?

Does it matter at all?

Thanks,
Rick

My understanding is that you technically shouldn't mix and match lifters, but it's not unsafe as long as we're talking roller cams. I believe the wear pattern problem came from flat tappet cams, since they'd wear off cam lobes from mixing the lifters up. How many people swap out hydraulic roller cams, and sell them to other users on here alone?
