For those not aware, I spent the last month tearing apart my car, only to find out the fuel pump pickup line dry rotted in-tank.

Then, I found out my fuel supply line melted against my exhaust pipe. So after dropping the tank, reparing everything, crafting new lines, and then putting exhaust wrap around the muffler and DFI tape on the fuel lines, I get ready to mess with my timing.

And at some point, I must have bumped a line, because my (*&$(*# evaporative line coming from my fuel tank, or somewhere, melted against my passenger side exhaust. The above is a picture of the line.

So first questions first: Is this line pulling a vacuum? if so, then I need to patch and cap the line, because the ($*$# engine won't turn over.

This is after me re-setting the engine to find TDC, aligning 0 on the balancer and putting everything back together.

So, before I start second-guessing my distributor skills (I pulled the dist and put it back in after aligning the rotor to the #1 wire on the cap)...

Could this melted in-half line prevent my car from starting?

A melted vac line should not keep the car from cranking.

Shoot. Well I'll probably need to start a separate thread about TDC, or my incompetence at finding it. I suppose I could have the distributor seated wrong, but it seems unlikely.

Does the car not crank or it cranks but won't start? They're two very different things.

Cranks, won't start. The only thing I can think of that might *not* be 100% spot on is I wasn't sure I got the #1 spark wire firmly reattached to the spark plug.

I only tried it briefly. Sine that singed line apparently runs from the gas tank, I'm going to cap tape it off to keep the vapors away from a hot engine, and give it another go tomorrow.

I just realized what I did wrong. I was rotating the engine the wrong way to test for compression. I'm pretty sure I have the distributor installed 180 out of alignment. Argh.
