Definately go with the Accufab 75mm TB, just can't get any better than that!

But, now a bunch of the N/A 4.6L Gurus are saying that 4.10's and 4.30's are ideal for the mod motors, even the 5-spds. I've been getting told that if I wanna do a purely N/A setup for the quickest track time, then I should go with a nice cam, long tubes and to make up all that lost lowend torque (i assume that's why) I should go with 4.10's or 4.30's.. and that 4.30's are ideal for these motors, not the pushrods tho. So, since he's got an auto then 4.10's are the highest gear he should go with, but I would believe that 4.30 would be a nice choice for his car. It'd get a lot of pickup for him

But, if I wanna go KB then I should go with a 3.73 or so. Since you don't wanna run very low of a gear with that type of blower (twin screw/roots/positive displacement).

Kinda strange when I first heard it, but they do seem to know what they're talking about. They're getting the best track times with these setups.

Anywho.. how's that motor coming along?

I agree Jason, your going to quicker times. What I was saying is I don't pick a gear on just track times or getting the quickest time out of my car. I look at other factors. How it performs in stop and go traffic, the cruising rpm, etc...I just don't like "bigger is better" in a lot of cases...

But yeah it will make them quicker. They step up the gear ratio for mainly two reasons. Keep them in their powerband and torque multiplication.

Can't beat accufab... The only thing I don't like about 75mm TB's on these older 5.0L's is the "tip-in" effect...I like the characteristics of a 65mm TB better...that is why I have kept it so long.

Anyways, i'm just bored...

David i agree with you I mean 4.30 is just to much gear.. In less you have a really mean motor and you dont plain on driving it much thats cool but being wound out all the time will do more harm then good.. 4.6s love to rev and they make there power up high but 4.10 is anuff i think..Its wired how everyone things go with a like 4.30 or 4.55 will make ur car fast and all it can really hurt you if you think about it cuz if you put a cam in that has good low to mid range power then 4.30 is going to hurt you..You will be at to high of rpms to even do anything..

Well Allen don't let my opinion stop ya

After all, this is what makes the performance world interesting...we all have our own thoughts and ideas we like and we do them...its what makes our cars unique

if your gonna get cams and longtubes to make up for all that low end torque then why are you gonna get 4.10 or 4.30s? i think the 4.30s would be to much for your car and would be really hard to launch with out burnin the **** out of your tires 4.10s would be kinda ify imo thats just what i think

TJ, I think what Jason meant was that the longtubes and cams will "hurt" lowend. They tend to shift the powerband upwards. The cams will be the main culprit of that. The steeper gear will keep you in that powerband with the new cams...

If he has slicks it won't be a problem

Matt lost a tenth and a half going from 3:27's too 3:73's...in his 00 GT. He says he likes the gears alot...

I just wish we had a little switch where we could have 3:27's for cruising and hit that button and get some 4:30's for the track/race...one day maybe...hehe.

OT: You all ready for the ice? I bet the track will be closed...

David that would be nice i think the only thing that comes even near that would be a quick change rear end..Right now we have some ice on the ground and now its snowing

Allen,

i have 4.30's in my car and its not to much gear and i have stage 1 cams and it doesnt kill them at all. These gears never hurt my performance from the start all. They have been one of the best mods i have done to the car and the car is never wound out all the time, very rarely is it..Its just how you drive it. Actually everytime i shift from 5800-6000 rpms then with the 4.30's it throws me back down right where im making power and pulls like a mother. Just my opinion tho....and personal experiences

Like David said everyone has there own taste.. But that was just my feelings on having really high gears.. My buddy that has the dragster has 4.75 plus a big drag slick so all said and done is over all ratio is some where in the 5's..
But i just agree with david thats all.. B/W david I wish i could take the 4.6 out and drop a nice 302 stroker lol..

Depends on where you are driving...I can barely stand cruising on the interstate with 373's. I just don't like more piston speed (rpms) than needed if I'm not racing around. I personally don't like cruising around at half my car's capabilities rpm speed. When I am just cruising...

In town shifting can become a hassle with 3 short shifts after going 25 feet

Oh yeah, it lets you stay in that powerband...that is a good thing about those gears...not for me though.

Thanks for asking...it is going well so far. Keith Craft has my bottomend right now. Just however long it takes him...I dropped it off to him last Friday. I finally have gotten all my parts in...the longtubes look pretty, much better than them rusty ones I had on before...and I got my lower intake ported by a guy in Missourri. Great work on it...I know I am doing a pretty basic rebuild, but I have spent way more money than I intended...isn't that the way it always goes TJ Hopefully a few more weeks and I'll be driving it, I miss it, even though it isn't a "show winner" like some of you alls cars

B/w you might be in ur power band but just think tho if that car can run the same times as you but say form a roll he has 3.73 and he wants to do a 45mph roll i think he is going to take you more the likely.. My buddy has 4.10s in his car and dang 1st dosent last long at all.. Plus if u are driving near are in ur power band that eats up some gas i would be guessing.. I told my buddy with the 4.10s i bet we arent taking any more road trips in this car lol..

personally I love my 4.10s. (go figure ) I think 4.30s would be just a little too much for me, being a daily driver. I know a lot of guys run with them and like them, but the 4.10s are enough gear for me. When I get cams and raise my red-line a bit, I think they'll be perfect gor the 1/4

now, if only we could get a 1/4 track in the state *rubs chin*

Nice to see a good debate going on here.. instead of the usual bs'ing around

But, who cares about racing from a roll.. that's for ricers and people who can't launch
:Track: or bust!

I can't wait to go to Memphis in March to go to the 1/4 track!! Me and teh Helt are gonna tear that s.o.b. up! lol
