At what temp. is overheating?

Sorry for a dumb question, but at what temp. is too hot??? 190? 200? 210? just curious as to what you all think.

When it starts to puke fluid. If coolant is not boiling off, it won't hurt your engine. I like 180* for a driver. Good balance between HP and wear.

A good rule of thumb is staying above 240 degrees is considered overheating.

This applies to water and oil.

As long as it is not letting off steam or causing detonation.

yah water boils at 212 degrees and you have a coolant/water mix under pressure which won't boil till well over the 212 degree mark. If i was cruising and i saw 240 degrees on my temp gauge i would pull over and let my car cool down. i hate seeing 220.

thanks for the info, yeah, it has never hit near 240, nor 220...it has gotten to 200 and around 205/210...so thats why i wanted to know so i didnt ruin my motor..thanks guys

Ive also noticed this with my 69 also. ON the highway its about 180 to
185 degrees, but if I let it sit and idle it creeps up to 200 205 degrees so
I wasn't sure how hot is to hot. Thanks for the info

If it aint blowing steam it aint overheating.

That said I like mine at 220 or less at idle on a hot day. Anything between 180 and 210 is about perfect.

awesome...yeah, highway its about 180 190 but in traffic at idle it will get to around 200 210..so that makes me feel better about it
