At what times is it ok to use 3M double sided tape for GT fx???

I was thinking when the GT wing goes on I could put strips between the bolts. And then on the fender pieces maybe? I see how the side skirts go on but they seem like they'll be flimsy still. I bought some metal strips all tapped with holes every inch or so for the side skirt to bolt to the body but what supports the top side where it just meets under the door?

One more thing. The black moldings that go around the car, when converting to GT the only one that stays in tact is on the doors correct? If not I'm in some $hit. And btw, restoring and converting your FIRST project car is NOT fun on your own. My dad's a mechanic and doesnt help. I don't trust any friends to strip/sand/primer/attach anything without 100% supervision.

Sometimes, you've gotta do, what ya gotta do, you know?

3M doublesided tape is some tough stuff, clean down with alchohol and apply, it ain't going anywhere.

There is a local guy here that has a set of GT groud FX attatched to his 4 banger coupe (don't ask) with 3m double sided tape , and they have been on there for two years that I know of. Just don't use duct tape

Good 3M VHB body side molding tape will hold a lot of weight if it is prepped and applied correctly, I work with the stuff daily since I work at a 3M Converter They use it to assemble tractor trailers since it will not fatique like a rivit will, even the St.Paul Aiirport is held together with the stuff.


I wouldn't put it on the wing, and the side skirts and extension hook around some brackets that are rivoted to the car body, no adhesive foam tape is needed on them. Only place you need some of the foam tape is on the body side moldings that run on the door, (2) 1" strips works very well.

Thanks guys, and sorry rick I know you said you wouldnt put it on the GT fx, but I think I'm going to. I FINALLY got the GT fender on last night by 4 am. It's straight and everything. I think if something doesn't feel rigid enough somewhere I'll 3M it but if it seems locked down pretty good I'll pass on the 3M.
