When we pulled the DS out to fix the flange i lost about 5 ounces of fluid out the back of the trans. Was it over filled or am i now under filled???

I cant picture the height of the fill hole relative to the tail shaft.

Apparently my ex-husband made that mistake.

It's underfilled now. You can actually pull the driveshaft out without loosing any fluid, but you have to raise the back end of the car up quite a bit over the front.

On the assumption that you are not filling it removed from the car, and you are not, you can only fill to the bottom of the fill hole. So if fluid does not come out when the plug is removed it's under filled. However, 5 oz one way or another probably doesn't really matter.

Yep but while i have the access to the lift i might as well crack it open and see if it drains out the fill hole. If not ill just fill it untill it starts to leak out the fill hole....

Or should i drain the whole thing and refill?

The decision to empty and replace will depend upon factors that only you know about. Such as, has it been sitting in there for years or has it seen lots of miles since it was last changed. Of course, peace of mind says just change it. It's less than 3 quarts (2.6L)

Yeah, while you have a lift, it's a perfect time. If you pull the driveshaft out while the car is level, it will fall below the recommended level.
