i'd agree on performance as a whole defining sports car.....i mean, you cant say only a stick or auto makes a sports car although traditionally most sports cars had sticks,,,,,,,,,but most those cars were 4 cylinders and 6 cylinders as well.......if your talking true sports cars like euro stuff.
for all us aod gt owners we'll just have to get goofy and say it's only a true sports car if it has leather seats.........lmao
i wonder if the vette and camaro guys have the same debates within their gm circles......oh wait, had a 79 t-a and i remeber people would get bent when it had the 403 and th 350 instead of the 400 and 4 speed......guess it never ends....
i think the real issue is not to throw the baby out with the bath water and remember that regardless of the transmission, the car is still what it is , just because it's one tranny or another doesnt make it a p.o.s, especially when most cars are relatively easily swapped from one to another, not to mention with these cars age and all all of them end up having the transmission out for one reason or another anyway, it just personal preference on what one you put back in.

to me, a sports car is something that is impractical and that breaks down a lot (you spend more time working on it than driving it). but when it runs, it is exhilarating to drive. it need not a powerful engine, so long as it is agile.

it should be RWD and have no back seat - or one so small, no human fits.

do note that its power to weight ratio will be compromised with all the tools and spare parts in the trunk.

i cut my teeth on Euro stuff, so you can see this is slanted to that end.

Sounds about like mine with the whole more time working on it than driving it. Oh yeah, haven't seen the back seat nor the bottom of the trunk in months - guess that's why it feels so slow with all that extra weight
