Attention: Stick shift owners

It does get old in bumper to bumper traffic, and I have a very heavy pedal like so many mustangs. It sure is nice when your starter goes out or your battery is almost dead, you can push start it. An auto will need to be fixed on the spot or towed. 99% of the time, I love driving it though. Dont want an auto. I control the shift points, not a computer. If you drive it right, the clutch will last 100,000mi and the trans will last longer than that, and you will get better mpg than an auto to boot. Its a matter of personal preference, but the benefits outweight the bad things to me.

I drive a 5spd for my daily driver (only driver)...and the only time I get tired of it is in "bumper to bumper"..."stop and go"...if you live in a city with lots of traffic...I say go with the auto...but as where I live...I don't get in the cities enough to worry about auto vs. 5spd...

Good Luck,

David

Well I have both, the camaro is my daily driver and it is an auto, the stang is a project car that my dad and I are working on. That is a stick, it is much more fun driving the stang. I personally like the stick shift.

I drive my '82 5.0 with a manual everyday and love it. The speed limit is only 45mph & 55mph on the highway I'm on everyday with 6 lights between my house to my school. There was an accident one day and I was stuck in traffic for 1hr. to go about 2.5 miles, would get up to about 15mph then stop, etc. it was a little annoying but waiting in traffic was worse then just having to shift. I wouldn't trade it for an auto anyday.

The truck is a 5 speed, the stang is a 5 speed - what more could a guy want? I love the control, I love the abilty to put it in any gear within reason and just take off and not wait for the computer to downshift to what it wants to. I like being able to do things offroad or while driving hard that require the power without having to worry about the tranny shifting up on me, and most of all I love "rowing" through the gears on a nice back-country road

Manuals - nothing like them. :D

I've put over 300,000 miles on my stick shift Stang, had it since new 1988, drive to work every day in traffic, much of it bumper to bumper, and still never wanted an Auto. And all my cars before it were stick. I'm 42, and still not tired of it.

A stick becomes mentally automatic if that is all you drive.
You can expect your left calf muscle to be bigger than your right from all of those years of pressing it in.
I picked an auto for my 250 because I did not want to fight a clutch and a trailer at the same time. I have a very tight spot to back into and it is on a high grade.

I am fairly large, when I let the clutch out in a stang, I hit the turn signal switch.

Can you drive stick at this point? Cars other than sports cars can be had cheaper if they are sticks as only 15% of the population will drive one.

Sometimes it sux ass in heavy traffic, but that's mainly from having a stiffer aftermarket clutch. Otherwise I've always enjoyed driving stick-shift cars, feel like I'm more in control of the vehicle no-matter what it is. Don't let your dad talk you out of it just cuz he doesn't like em.

you wont get tired of it if you truley love driving. My 94' is the first daily driver stick shift that I have had and I love it. I live in Philadelphia, so theres lots of bumper to bumper BS. It doesnt matter at all. The sounds that come out of a stick are way better, nothing beats shifting at the track under full throttle.

Yes, autos are more consistant and might even last longer....but so what?

You have way more control of the car with a stick, and it adds another challenge when racing. Im not some soccer mom that uses my car only to get from A to B. Get a stick, get er done right. :D
