Has anyone installed this head unit? It's pricey but for its looks alone it may be worth it. If you've installed, then what combo of speakers, amp, woofers etc are you running and is it schweet or sour? Thanks in advance!

I'm in a similar dilemma, and these are the posts I got:
Have you seen the new 66 Mustang AM/FM Stereo reproduction from Custom Auto Sounds? It's an exact replica of the original am/fm radio (which was a REALLY rare option) but it has modern internals with 200 watts, RCA output/input, and Ipod jack. I put one in my car and I love it! It keeps the original look but modern sounds. I run the Ipod jack into my glove box an plug in my CD player.

I agree the Custom Auto Sounds USA 6 stinks. I'm talking about the USA 66 AMFM. I had the USA 6 and couldn't stand it either. The sound was terrible and everytime I changed radio stations I heard a humming feedback noise. I saw the 66 AMFM and decided to try it and it is WAY BETTER than the USA6 is. The USA 6 looks cheap IMHO but the 66 AMFM is a first class reproduction of the ultra rare AM/FM radio that was an original option on the 66 Mustang. The radio preset buttons actually control the external plug ins, like CD changers and such, but the tuning buttons are manual just like original. I just set mine to the local classic rock station and I keep an external CD player handy when I want to listen to my CDs.

i have it installed and i think it sounds great personally but im not a speaker expert and it looks just beautifull i love it no problems yet the connections for the spearkers that it comes with are kinda werid but i just soderd the wires together

Unless they've started making better units, everyone I've heard that has had one for an extended period of time says they are a piece of ****. I have no personal experience, but due to the overwhelming negativity towards them, I'm not willing to risk a try at one.

But which is more a piece? The USA-66 that is able to play MP3's and CD's and looks stock OR the stock that plays AM static only?

I plan on remote mounting a head unit elsewhere (glovebox?) and leaving the stock unit in place.

There is one manufacturer that makes a remote unit that has a wired remote you can put somewhere....... problem is, it's from Custom Auto Sounds. :(

You can mount the stereo anywhere and use a infared repeater.Mine is in the glove box and theres a pic up somewhere(if you need to see it)

I love my USA 66 stereo. Several years ago I had a 1965 Corvette that I put a USA 1 in and I hated it. It was cheaply built and the sound quality was not very good but it was the only aftermarket radio that woukld fit in it. That Corvette is long gone but a couple of years ago I got a 1966 Mustang and decided to try the USA 6...same story; I hated it. What I really wanted was something that looked original but had FM and AM capability and sounded good. I was thinking of modifying an original AM radio to play FM but then Custom Auto Sounds came out with the USA 66 which looked like it was exactly what I was looking for. It was pricy but I decided to try it and I do not regret it. The face is metal like the original (not plastic like the other stereos they make) and the sound quality is very good. I especially like that I can plug in MP3 players, CD palyers etc... The theme of my car ir original looks but not neccessarily as originaly built so I bought a set of reproduction 8-track rear package tray speaker covers and use Pioneer 220 Watt speakers that I mounted under the rear openings. It has the looks, power and sounds that I want and I am very happy with it. If you want an original look with a very good sound then this is the stereo for you, but if you want the absolutely best sound and don't care about looks, the nI would put in a hide a way unit. i hope this helps.
