Auto tranny/exhaust isues

i have a 91 auto vert

Im not shure what h-pipe i have, but i have tripple chamber 2.5 inch flows. I olnly have 2.5 inches of clearance from the lowest point of my exhaust to the ground! My mechanic said it seemed low and tried to pull it up but coulnt do much.Thinks its a problem for the autos?Do you aod guys have this problem?I think its lowered but not shure,2 of my stock shocks are blown, could this set it lower than normal?.Verts are heavier so do i need stiffer than stock shocks? Im planning on it anyway.Im also considering putting a nicer set of stock ride heighth springs in if the new shocks dont help? I cant pull in to alot of places beacuse of the problem, please help! Thanx to all who read this drivel!

My LX vert is lowered almost 2". I am running a UPR o/r X pipe with Flowmaster Super 40's. The center of my X pipe sits a little low but not as bad as what your describing.

I know there are some manufacturers that list a separate mid pipe for AOD and 5spd applications although I am not sure what the difference is.

I'm sure your bad shocks could have something to do with the problem causing it to ride a little lower. Regarding your springs, most manufactures list separate springs for verts compared to coupes and hatches. Just choose the manufacturer you want and the ride height and buy their springs labled for verts. I would also recommend a progressive spring for a little better ride. I am using BBK springs and Tokico "blues" for shocks/struts. Little rougher than stock but still very livable.

The shocks dont have anything to do with the ride height. All of the vehicles weight is carried by the springs. If you have an older car still running the stock springs...they may be a little tired. A new set of springs, shocks, and struts would do wonders for your suspension. Might want to look into some new polyurethane bushings too...at least for the isolators and pigtails.

As for the exhaust. You need to loosen the connections at the ball flange on the header and at the flow tubes. with a jack under the center section of the h pipe...jack it up into place then tighten down all four connections. That should get it up there a little higher. good luck man

Thankyou for you time gentemen.Im alway impressed(usually) with the amount of people wlling to help others.....bla bla anyway im going to try to pull up the exhaust(well mechanic will) thankyou good tip and work on peicing a decent progressive rate vert spring/shock strut setup together......ahh the joy of a project(puke)
