Well.. I think this topic's been discussed over and over again.. but just to get a conclusion and closure.. which would be faster? I mean.. Honestly.. an Auto could take the same year stang everything matching in a drag.. but what about from a roll? I mean.. a computer can infact shift faster then a human.. regardless of 'racing abilities'.. and I know Manual's are wayyy more fun to drive.. but honestly.. what's the main difference in speed? Is there any at all? Granted there are the downsides of not have complete control over your car with an Automatic.. but then again.. the computer knows when to shift and it will when it's ready.. just a question I thought I'd pop up to see peoples opinions becuause I'm curious.. no bashing please.. thanks guys. :D

well a auto isn't exactly set for performance from factory, it's set for better economy. & fords auto tranny is not exactly efficient in getting all the power to the ground. as much as it pains me to say it, i would take a auto out of a f-body, before i would a auto in a stang. & yes a manual is faster than a auto from factory :nice:

Well.. my friend has a generally stock (sway bar, cold air intake) Honda Prelude.. and I really want to own this guy.. his car is manual.. I have an AOD 03 GT with steeda CAI, steeda ud pullies, jms chip, 3.90 gears and roush sway bar.. should I be able to win?

it shouldn't even be close. it's one thing when your comparring a stang to a stang with the auto vs. manual debate. but for all intensive puposes for you, it shouldn't even be close in that one. the lude should get :owned:

Out of the box, a 5spd will be faster because it has more power. Nobody can deny that. The thing I like about my auto is that it is always running at it's fullest potential while a 5spd is very inconsistent without a relatively good driver. I'm running 13.0s with an auto, so i'm not complaining.

i dont care what anyone says....an auto is just as good or even better from a stop... from a roll ...like 60mph the stick will win because they can control the rpm and get in the power band better plus they have 1 more gear to get into the higher top end....put gears on a GT 3.73 or 4.10's and it will be smoking stock 5 spds all day.... its not much of a difference either.. the most important thing too is the driver of the 5spd better be good...ive raced like 2 of my friends stock to stock....my auto always beats them..they just dont know how to drive..plus my friend ramin had his car a bit hooked up like intake and a custom exhaust "H" pipe which probobly wasnt mandrel bent and he lost power but anyways ...from auto to stick not much of a difference in the drag races....get a chip change the shift points and even if u want a shift kit and that sucker to shift when u throw it to 2nd not shift 1 1/2 seconds later lol....i think thats my next mod
