Hey guys,

Not sure if this techie enough for this forum or not but wanted to give it a shot just in case. I've recently noticed an oddness with my automatic 98 GT (entirely stock).

At times, when I hit it semi-hard from a stop sign, it feels almost like she's not in gear. I get a little rev and delay before she starts to move forward. I can almost hear a little slap when it finally does kick in.

Any ideas what this could be or how I could address the problem?

Thanks in advance.

I honestly don't know. Until recently, I just didn't know how or have the confidence to do this work myself. I always took her in to the shop for work and serviced on schedule, so if I had to guess, I'd say the ford dealership most likely did the trans fluid around 60K maybe? She's at 90 now. Guess that's something I should do over holiday vacation.

I appreciate the reply. Learning a lot here.

Check the fluid level and see what color the oil is....it should be brite red......sounds like it needs an overhaul though....

I would drop the pan and change the filter and fluid. If that does not help have a tranny guy look at it and see what he thinks!!

Make sure you're not low on fluid, but that is a classic "slipping" transmission. Clutches and bands are probably starting to wear.
