automatic transmission controller

I'm replacing my manual tranny for an auto(4r70w). My car is a 2001 Mustang GT.
Where can I get an aftermarket automatic transmission controller? I'm wary of junkyard computers being fried(electrically). I also would like to adjust the transmission shifts.

Baumann used to make one, but I don't know if that's what you're looking for.

A tuner is a way to adjust the shift points on your auto tranny.

Baumann is still around. I found what I want for $550 including wire harness. More than I want to pay but reasonable priced.
This controller adjusts shift points and firmness too.

Well, when you say you want an "aftermarket transmission controller," Baumann is the only one I know that makes it.

If you want to be able to make adjustments to things like shift points, gear ratios, etc, then you can get away with either a chip or hand-held tuner.

Bauman makes a controller, so do a couple of other places - Bauman is the cheapest. The cheapest thing to do is get a junkyard ECU and a tranny harness - it also happens to be the best thing to do. Adding a chip/tuner will do anything you neeed. Nothing compares to the flexibility you get with a factory ECU. I run a Bauman because I have to - way too much torque for the factory processor to handle. I have yanked tons of processors from junkyards and have never have had one bad. Usually the cars are there because they were wrecked,not because the ECU fried...

Anyone know what ECU years will work for my car? My body style is from 99-04. I learned long ago not to assume.
I'm not sure on the terminology but I need the car computer. Powertrain Control Module (PCM?).

an 01 to 04 ECU should work just fine for you, but i think you can reflash your current computer for the transmission change with SCT.

A predator or xcal will do what you want. I believe diablo and sct can write you a custom tune to modify your factory ECU and enable its automatic trans controls.

Ideally, get one from the same year car you have - Ford made subtle changes through the years and it involves the least amount of hassle - NUX1, NUX2 are two from your year with AT. MHS1, MHS2, MEW1 would probably work OK too.

Yes, those are EEC Catch codes printed on the processor.

If I replace my EEC, will the Anti-Theft System let me start the car? If not, how do I fix it. Tow to the dealer?

Either that or get a chip to shut off PATS - we do that all the time for people. Depends whatever is cheaper - towing and dealer vs. chip. Plus with a chip you get a performance boost.
