Crazy!

Is that the cam coming out the oilpan?

It sure is. I think one of the rods came up and "hooked" the cam, it was broke in 3 peices, with that one peice sticking out the side.

I knew I was in for it, when I pulled out the distributor, prepping to pull the motor. I didn't feel the gear on it, and knew there was no longer a cam there. Oh boy!

what caused the rods to give out? Looks like a lack of oil problem. Did the pickup plug?

Thats what I'm thinking. I haven't had the time to pull it apart yet, not sure if I even will. But the rod knock came on very suddenly about 2200 RPM, and I backed off of it, and about 1600 it gave out. I'm guessing either a pickup plugged, or the oil pump failed completely. The motor ran fine before this happened.

Of course with the tires howling on I-5, I may not have heard the early knocking. Who knows.

the only positive thing about it is, the motor was tired when I bought the truck (even tho the previous owner said it was a year old crate motor) I knew it was BS and planned on putting a new motor in it. This little mishap just motivated me to do it sooner.

Now I'll be rockin this badboy:
