Thinking of going auto next year. So behind a 302 should i go C-4? C-6? Lentch? ONE of these days i'll make some power so i wanna do the trans right now and be done. I seen lentechs site but what model? I'll have my COMPLETE set up rebuilt new curently with 300 miles TKO for sale here soon. peace

I was actually shocked to find out that my stock C4 will chirp the tires going into second with 373's. I would probably be happier if I could find a programmer to change my shift points but for a cruiser it's good enough. For a drag car I would go manual though. Sure an auto shifts faster and you can't miss a gear but as I'm sure you already know, you lose so much more power through an auto than a manual. You would spend so much more time and money on your motor to get the same rwhp out of an auto than you could already have out of a manual

So to sum-up: Auto for a mildly modded cruiser like mine, manual for a built drag car.

if your set on going auto id go with a c4 from huges or tci they can build you one for what you want to acomplish with it

Not exactly true. If you go to the track and look around you will notice a helluva lot more cars with autos than manuals. They are more consistent and depending on your combo can actually make your car much quicker.
Take my car for instance, because of my funky combo it was all I could do to run mid 11s. All I did was throw in a decently built auto and I shaved almost .8 off my ET. Now Im not saying you cant have a quick and consistent stick car, you definately can. But when it comes to bracket racing or a turbo car, autos are quite nice.

Oh and John, your choice really depends on what your going to do with the car. Daily driver, lots of highway, fun weekend car, street/strip, or strictly strip. It also depends on the combo your looking at as far as power.

If your gonna go turbo, do the C-4 and throw some 3.08's in the back. Trust me, I know....

thats what the plans for my falcon are 9" rear with 3.08 or 3.73, snail, 4 bolt mains lots of boost and a good c4 that way i can keep all hands on the wheel.

It will work ok, it'll be more fun on the highway with a 5speed, but if you want to race it, it'll be easier with a C-4. Best way to go fast....

I use an AOD and i like it, with the 4r gearset its got a lower 1st than a C-4.

Well i'm still thinking about it? The only reason i'm thinking of going auto is cause i can/couldnt shift for crap? Maybe now that the tremac is brand new again and after i break it in i'll give it a shot and be able to shift? While back in ohio this weekend at the NMRA races i'm going to ask them what they do to there tremac's to get them to shift fast? I heard they run a pro 50 kit in them, but the guy that rebuilt my tremac is a factory trained and rep for tremac and he hade'nt heard of anything like it? peace

Stangler is right about the autos being easier and faster if your combo is right... If you are having trouble shifting there are two things to address the shifter and the clutch setting. I am running a TKO 600 with a MGW shifter with a mcleod street twin clutch. Until I switched to an upgraded shifter the shift quality was awful! I have also found a looser clutch setting alows a lot quicker shifting..ie looser = tightening the cable a little. I've run as fast as 11.4 at 124 with 1.64 60 ft. IF you are running forced induction of any kind the auto will make you quicker!
