Autozone Code Scanners not Work

So I went to two Auto Zones to scan for codes to see why my check engine light randomly goes on and off. Both scanners came back with a operator connection error or something. Does this mean my computer plug(under the dash) is messed up? Will the paperclip or manual method be the only way to pull codes now? Thanks.

that plug goes to nothing. you must use the obd1 port under the hood on the pass side to pull codes

Using the wrong code port, there is on the the Passenger side under the hood, it's clipped behind the strut tower mounting area

Aren't those (OBDII's) under the dash?

screw autozone--they still count blinking lights. go to advance--they have a digital OBD-I reader and it even prints out the codes on a nice little receipt, too!

Here a little info for anybody who goes to AA to get scanned. After they hook up the reader they MUST plug the scanner either up to the battery or the cig lighter plug or it will NOT work. I worked at AA for a bit and it took me a bit to figure out why it wouldn't read, it need another source of power for it to work.

My buddy who worked at AA never had to do that.

The scanner we used need a seperate power souce to read obd1 systems. This wasn't some junt scanner either I'm pretty sure it was Acron(sp?).

Okay...I meant to say that I went to advanced auto for the scanner in the first place. I thought that 95's were obdII so hooking it under the dash is the correct place, isn't it? So what could my problem be?

If you have a GT, forget you ever saw that OBD-II connector inside the car. You use the connector on the passenger side of the engine compartment (between the pass strut tower and the firewall). And you an OBD-I reader (or a jumper wire). Again, your GT is OBD-I.

94 and 95 V6 stangs were OBD-II if my memory serves me correctly, but our cars were not until 96.

A lot of people are misinformed about a lot of things on our cars... even Ford. They told me that my car had 4 O2 sensors. Hissin and everyone else is right, trust us!

94/95 V6's are obd11 ALL 87-95 5.0 V8 are obd1 no exceptions.

NO. As stated before, FORGET THAT STUPID PLUG UNDER YOUR DASH. Pretend it's not even there. The plug under the hood is the one you need. It will NOT fit an OBD2 scanner, as your car is NOT OBD2. Do a search, use a paperclip, and get your own codes. Easy as pie.
