I have done this to change my gears, but I just went to a local tranny shop, how often do they really use a Dial indicator with magnetic base??

me, all the time. but thats what happens when youre a machinist.....

only time ive used the loan-a-tool thing is when i was changing the waterpump on the truck, instead of the fan and clutch bolting on, it left hand threaded. no idea why, just a pecularity of the bb6.

Canadian Tire does it too

i went there to get the press for ball joints and they kept telling me i needed the little fork looking thing that you can hook on to an air hammer. i kept say no i need the ball joint press! they looked at me dumb founded and asked waht it was, so i explained it and told him again that i was replacing ball joint and i needed to take it out of the control arm and press the new one in, he said ya you need this tool (fork looking deal) to remove it. i said thats what i have a hammer for, how hte hell am i gonna put the new one in. finnally i jsut said **** this and went to part source, all i had to say to them was i need a tool to do a ball joint and i was out of there in 5 mins.

I used Autozone's tools to change my A/C compressor clutch and whenever I need a torque wrench I borrow O'Reilly's. Its a cool deal, just put the cost on a credit card and then take it back and they issue a credit.
