I run my car on the street with a 347 as a daily driver. Last time I had it on a dyno it made 413rwhp (SAE). I have put a lot of work and effort into making a engine that will produce that kind of HP and it wasn't easy. Even when you start with all the right parts, or what you think are all the right parts, it's still a challenge to make big HP. I talked with lost of people and it seems like eveyone had thier own idea of what parts to use, what was big enough, what wasn't and so on. If you want to make 400 RWHP you will have to spend some extra time and money. The GT40's could possiably make 400 flywheel HP but I don't see it being 400 RWHP.

Since I am too lazy to put them in my sig

347ci - 11.25:1
TFS heads-custom porting
Victor 5.0L-custom porting
90mm THB
80mm Shorty Airflow meter
AFM Power pipe
AFM N-111 cam
42lb injectors
kooks 1 3/4 long tubes
kooks 3" x-pipe
3" magnaflow's
PMS-engine managment

The 413WHP was taken about a year ago with 2 1/2 magnaflow mufflers that were dumped. After a trip to the track and picking up aprox 2 mph in the 1/4 with exhaust off I changed to the 3" mufflers and tail pipes.

Mike, my cam is a custom by Comp Cams. It was made for our style computers with an LSA of 114. My duration numbers are a bit smaller then yours. I'll post the card when it arrives. If my TQ numbers are low I'll be calling Ed for sure. I'm out of the supercharger game. Florida weather and our computers makes for finicky driveability. Just don't have the patience to montior guages that closely. I want to get in and beat on it then go home. Just couldn't do that with a blower. My 500HP Grand National on the other hand was capable of doing this though. I bought a turbo from Oink but wound up ditching it. I'm going back to simplier times.

Nice combination! Thats N-111 hi rev cam is a big cam. Do your brakes work good? Do you mind posting your dyno graph? I'd expect a little more from that combo though. Who ported the heads? This guy is making the same power with a smaller N-91 hi rev cam with a near identicle combo, 347- afm ported TW, ported victor 5.0, N-91, bassani 1 5/8-1 3/4 longtubes.

KCK6894: Does your dyno graph show a direct relationship between your power band and the 4,000-7,500 rpm range of your Victor intake? The reason I 'm asking is I want to do a S/C 331 and I was not even concidering a Victor (either performer rpm or TFS R) because of the low end power starting at 4 grand?! I was also told with things like an intake spacer and the right gears you can get low end, out of a big intake?! Your dyno graph should be interesting. Thanks

Click on the link I posted of the 347 example with a ported victor 5.0 intake. It starts making 300 ft/lbs @ 2700 rpm and by 3000 rpm its making about 330ft/lbs. I'd say thats plenty of low end given the big parts. More importantly, look what it makes in the mid-upper rpm If you're building a s/c stroker and starting from scratch, a victor 5.0 or a tfs-r are your best bets. If you have the hood clearance, a tfs r box would be good too, but sounds like its overkill for you. A tfs-r is a step below the victor 5.0. The tfs r is not really comparible to the smaller performer rpm. What combo are you planning?

So tell me Mike

Is that pull of Long/Patz going out to about 7500 rpm?

Yes, that pull was 2700 rpm to almost 7500 rpm. That little dip in the power curve you see is 4000 rpm which is when the PMS goes into standalone. The dyno sheet was in 500 rpm increments. You can see at 7500 rpm on that set up, theres not really any useable power.

So does the 1hp/cu. in rule of thumb get thrown out when you run optimum parts? Or is that just a "base" guess or what usually happends?

Just tryin to put my finger on this "theory" and everyone that surpasses it.

Yes, definatly. The 1 hp per cubic inch thing IMO is more for guys who throw all their 302 parts on the stroker. I understand not everyone (including myself) has the money to do it right. Also, some people aren't looking to make big power, though it doesn't make sense to me to spend all this money and do all this work to not make good power.

I use the formula below as a guide. It will never be exact but it will get you an idea.

Cubic inches multiplied by:

.95- for mild
.98- for medium
1- solid stout combo.
1.1- very well put together combo.
1.15- nuts

Power adder's:
1.5 (10 lbs).

Again many things vary.

More to engines that just making power. More variables involved.

I too think it is funny how it is so "easy" to make 400rwhp in a street car and then the same people think it is even possible for a 302 with the "right parts" What is that...all crank driven accessories deleted with a high revver. Where is most driving spent at...probably under 2,500rpm.

I was trying to ignore...but you never give up do u?

Some people want a high revver David. You might not...but others do. AND they would still consider it a street car in their books. Can ya imagine that?

No one said you can throw parts together and get the results. But if Ed C. said it can be done...it has been done...then what else do you need? Its not just people runnin their mouth on the internet...this is the man who the majority of us go to for advice and for a cam. And guess what? I bet it would be EASY for Ed to do it.

You might not be able to make that kind of power in a street car under your restrictions...but those arent the same restrictions that all of us apply.

Nate, no I do not give up. It takes two to argue/debate/settle. Remember that

I just don't see how it is so hard for someone to tell their "real" combo and not just the parts bolted on the engine for air/fuel. Why can't (when numbers are posted) can someone not say whether they have certain accessories. It helps with the power...and the one who keeps his accessories (not knowing any better) will be dissapointed in his numbers when he gets them...always wondering why he didn't have as high of numbers. I don't think it is to much to ask for someone to tell how they got the numbers they did. Is it?

Im not saying thats asking for too much. I simply said that the professional we all trust says it can be done. So it can. Plain and simple. You want to find out how? Call Ed.

Like i said before...there is a bigger world outside of these forums where power levels are reached that we never hear about. But guess who does? Ed. So if you want to know HOW someone did it...thats one thing. But questioning if it can be done is just annoying. Going on and on and on about "streetable" is annoying. You only set the definition about "Streetable" for yourself, and i think we all know what it is by now. So leave it be.
