Hey guys I think I have the dreaded axel moan. I have a 06 GT 5 speed with only 1500 mi. I have an appointment to have it looked at Thursday. It only does it on slow turns left or right It makes a moaning or rubbing sound It does not do it under acceleration does anyone else have this prob. with an 06? I know there is a TSB for 05. My dealer said they have not had any with this prob. I dont know to let them experiment with mine or not.

That's it!!! About 2 weeks ago I noticed the sound when making the turns in the parking garage I use at work. Now I notice it all the time at slow speeds only when turning. It has to be a somewhat sharp turn too, maybe between 90 and 180 degrees of a turn on the steering wheel. I thought it was because I have larger 20x10's in the back.... guess not. I have 3500k on my 06.

Anyone know exactly what's causing the problem?

Seriously, from what I've been reading elsewhere most people haven't had much luck with the dealer. Seems like most of the fixes only lasted a couple thousand miles before it started happening again.

What exactly is happening to make this noise? I'm thinking of getting 3.73's installed and am wondering if that would fix the issue (assuming they are professionally installed correctly). I want to wait though, to get this noise issue resolved so the dealer can't say that the gear change is the culprit.

The problem is in the clutch pack assembly. The dealer just puts a new clutch pack in the differential.

My best friend and I have both had ours replaced in our 06's. My best friend just got his replaced last week at around 6,500 miles. But I've put about 12,000 miles on mine since I got mine fixed. Works like a champ now.

i heard this noise last night....less than 2000 miles on it.

We were going less than 5 mph, turning into a parking spot and i heard a wooooooooooo from the driver's side rear.

Is this a real problem, or something that can be tolerated?

FYI, I think 05-21-2 is the TSB for this.

It happens with both Transmissions! I've had the Problem since last November (2 weeks after I bought it)...

I took my 2006 GT a local Ford dealership 3 weeks ago, and after Technicians Test-Driving the vehicle, this is what is listed on my Service Report:

"NO ABNORMAL NOISES HEARD. POSI-TRAC UNIT WORKING AS DESIGNED."

The Technician told me that the noise I was hearing is a part of the TCS engaging; I don't buy that response. I think I'll take my GT to another Service Center and ask them about the Clutch Pack. I hate the noise, but I guess I have to deal with it until the Winter because my GT is my only personal vehicle with AC.

I hope that there is a TSB for this noise. "Pro Mod" you said that the problem is the Clutch Pack; how long did it take to diagnose this Problem and how long did it take to correct?

"Rambro" please let us know the outcome once you get your clutch pack replaced.

The sound mine makes is more of a scrubbing of the rear tires - as if they are not able to corner at LOW speeds. Anyone have this type of noise???

Found 2 TSBs for this here:

http://www.mustangforums.com/recalls-and-tsbs/make_FORD/year_2005/TSB.htm

One is for rearend chatter and the other is for axle moan. The TSB says that it applies to cars manufactured before 11/04. This is in the 2005 section. There is nothing in the 2006 section.

With a problem like this, when it only occurs in certain situations, and not all the time, it is hard for a service technician to diagnose the problem.

Hopefully Ford will acknowledge this problem. I mean, there are 10 of us in this thread alone with the same problem. I wonder how many others are out there with the problem.

I've had the wifes 06 in twice for this. On hers it will only make the noise when the rear end is hot. They have alredy replaced the clutch pack once and I had the service manager install some 4:10 gears while he was in the rear so to speak. Bottom line the noise came back and she is schelduled to go back in

our moan has gotten progressively worse. last week it only happend on occasion. Now...whenever you go around a culdasac or into ANY parking spot...definetly axle moan. We will be taking ours back the week after this one. If I get a response that no abnormal sounds were heard...I will be taking the ford tech for a ride and ask him what the moaning is.

take them for a ride when you drop it off, so they know exactly what you are hearing.

Well, mine went in today. The noise got progressively worse. I asked the service manager if he could give me the parts and we call it square for the clutch packs and ring and pinion, he said no deal, lol. I will let you all know the outcome, it just irks me to no end for someone else to work on my car, warranty or not....argh!
