Axle Bearings and Seals

I am currently installing new bearings and seals in an 8.8 rear end in my 85 GT. I noticed when I was putting in the seals, that when they were tapped in place (just inside flush with the end of the housing) that they did not come in contact with the bearings outer edge. Is this correct? There is about a ¼ inch space between the bearing and seal.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

I've posted this on a couple other sites and been told I'm good to go. I feel a lot better knowing I did this right instead of driving around for the next week waiting for something to go wrong.
Of course if I had taken the time to look at the old bearings and seals before I pulled them I wouldn't have had to make this post ......... duh!
