Well guys the car is running and I have realized how badly gears are needed to get this thing to 7500rpms. With the 2.75's 1st gear can get all the way to 75mph and this is with a freaking 5 speed. I don't need to go 300mph, so I am remedying this. Ronstang is helping me assemble a 4.30 geared, detroit locker, daytona bearing, 31 spline, Nodular Iron 3rd member for my Mach. The only thing we have left is to get some nice strong axles to hold up. I don't want any weak links in the car. My question is that I have been looking for some Currie and Moser axles but they are harder to get and cost a lot. I was wondering if Superior makes quality products? They are sold on summit and are made to whatever length you like. The axle splines are rolled and they are made of a hardened alloy. They look like a nice strong axle, but I wanted to make sure they are good. Anyone using these axles or heard about them? At $110 an axle sounds like a good deal.

I bought a set of Superior 31 spline replacements for my 65' from Summit. Nice units with good fit-same length as stock. The splined area is longer and there is no taper. Mine were .100 larger in diameter than the old 28 spline factory jobys.

That's alot of gear! Is your main purpose to race or street? Reason I say, os you'll be spinning that stroker very fast, and these "long" motors don't enjoy that as often.

When I had the SCJ, I had two pumpkins, same 31-spline set-up, a 3.25 for the street, and a 4:10 for "fun". The swap is not too hard to do, and it made the car a true dual-purpose monster.

The car will see time at the track, but not that often. It will mostly be a weekend cruiser. The problem is that with the cam the car is lurchy down low and takes a long time to pick up. Ronstang is running a similar combo with less cam and compression, and they are running 4.30's after experimenting from 3.70's-4.56's and these worked the best. I am not so much concerned about mileage just the power and how enjoyable the car is to drive. It is fun but it is a pain to have to rev up a ton and let the clutch out real slow to keep it from dying in 1st gear, and then wait till 20-30mph for the powerband to pick up. Plus I can't get into 5th gear with the gearing I have right now until atleast 60mph otherwise the car will start lugging. With the 4.30's the car will be cruising at around 2200-2300ish rpms which is just fine with my .63 overdrive ratio. Basically I want the car to run like a raped ape, and 4.30's will be necessary if I want to get it to 7000-7500rpms quickly.

Very true, and I do see your reasoning. Another point in ytour corner is with the 3.55's in my FFR, at 70 I am taching 2200, and it feels like crap, out of the power band. On the track, I wish I did have more gear, but the 3.55's are good on the street, tied in with the 3.07 first on the T-5, it scoots quick!

Mine has a 2.95 on the first gear, and the overdrive is a lower ratio which will allow me some more gear. We will play with it more here and there, a gear change is easy, but the 4.30's should do fine. If not I can always swap, the important matter right now is the axles.
