Is there any benefit from the Hammer console other then looks? I read above something about "not jumping from 1st to OD", so I assume the Hammer console allows control of all gears?

That's really all there is to it -- it's a ratchet shifter so you slam it forward and all you do is go one gear up.

It doesn't changethe tranny at all, or how it shifts, but it will help if you have done other things to the tranny.

Will this shifter work with the 4cyl arrangement? My shifter is connected to the tranny with a steel bar.

Don't believe so. It's designed for a cable.

Any idea what kind of shifter would work in my application? Preferably a ratchet shifter.

It basically makes the 1st-Drive-1st shuffle alot easier because it prevents you from skiping gears. It's nice but it's pretty expensive as well. The only reason I bought it was because some jack**$ broke into my car and tried to steal the radio so he bent the stock AOD shifter. It may come in handy when my car grows some more balls. Stock just isnt cutting it anymore.
