Hey all. I've got a 69 Mach One with an AOD transmission. I bought a B&M Hammer shifter four years ago, but I didn't install it because I had heard that I would have to fabricate a plate over the drive tunnel shifter opening where the original was placed for reinforcement. Because the shifter is a ratcheting type it feels stiff and that constant movement could lift up the sheet metal, wouldn't it? So in other words, do I have to fabricate a plate over the drive tunnel? Second, for the AOD, since it has an overdrive delete switch setup, which pattern which lettering do I use,"P-R-N-OD-D-2-1" or "P-R-N-D-2-1"? Please feel free to offer tips and suggestions in regards to this post. Thanks

The directions that come with the Hammer shifter tell you how to set it up for an AOD. If you dont have a copy, I will try and find mine and scan it for you.
As for the plate over the shifter hole....that is a good idea. I dont think the ratcheting action would be enough to lift the sheet metal from your trans tunnel. Remember, you are not only pulling up on the front two bolts, but also pulling down on the rear two bolts. However, with this being said, the way the Hammer Shifter mounts is VERY VERY close to the stock shifter hole. Its the only way you can get the shifter cable to go through the hole and have enough room left over for your console to cover the hole. Mine just BARELY covers the hole.
You will have to trim the console that comes with hammer shifter. The easiest way to do this is to put the console on your trans hump where you want it mounted....take a compass and space the pencil and the tip about .5" wide. Run the tip of the compass along your trans hump and let the pencil mark the console. When you have gone all the way around, you should have a scribed line on your console to the contour of your trans hump. Trim that off....check fit. If it still doesnt fit....keep doing this about 1/4" at a time until it fits the way you want it to.
I had a problem with mine. It ratcheted just fine....then, as soon as I hooked up the cable....i couldnt budge the thing. Then, I tried ratcheting it after that without the cable hooked up and the reverse lockout broke. I sent it back and got a brand new one from B&M no charge.
