I just purchased a B&M Hammer shifter. I was wondering how everyone who has one likes it? I have a B&M Transgo shiftkit will that effect the shifter at all? I also would like to know how the install went? Should I go to a professional to get it installed? Tell me everything you know about this AOD shifter.

yes yes yes i love the hammer shifter http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/431928 that is what one looks like installed the install wasnt that terrible should be able to figure it out pretty easily if you hit a snag i will help if i can. i really liket the ratchet action and it feels really good in your hand especially if you get the chrome upgraded screw on shifter, it is a nice addition to any cockpit, but i have one question why would you be looking to make you aod faster when you are switching out the aod soon anyways... just my .02

Thats a good question. I'm not changing out the AOD anymore. So I decided to go with a hammer shifter and a manual valve body. Can you describe how to shift the hammer?

alrighty well the shifter seemed confusing at first but it goes like this
when its in park you have to lift the lever and pull back once for reverse then without pulling the lever up you can pull back as many times as you want until you get to first but lets say you are doing the manual shifting and you are in third and lost track of gears and you push forward one to many times it wont let you go past neutral so you cant demolisht the tranny in order to put it in reverse or park from the forward gears you have you shift up to neutral then lift the lever and push once for reverse or you have to lift the lever again and push once for park
in all it sounds very confusing but you get the picture when you get like 1 minute to figure it out. so any more q's?

Yeah, the only real snag I found was connecting the nuetral safety switch....what a pain in the @ss.

Yeah, I have the Hammer Shifter in mine. I have no complaints with it. I had a professional put it in. I tried to do it myself & had problems & quickly found that B&M's Customer Service Sux! Other than the snafu with B&M's service, I have no complaints. Shifter looks & works great. I went with the Transgo shift kit, really nice crisp shifts. Also, don't snap the palastic gear indicator (the little translucent black plastic piece that shows what gear your in- PRND12). For some Ungodly reason, B&M can't seem to replace those (I called them on 4 occasions & they kept sending me the wrong ones...long story). So if anyone out there has an extra one of those PRND12 that thet're willing to part with, let me know

I have one also and the only complaint I have is the cheap metal they used, when I was unscrewing the shift knob once all but like 4 threads got striped out. Other than that I love it, it looks nice and shifts firm and well.

well bro just an estimate but it shouldnt take over 2 hours unless your gettin ripped off so about 120 to 160 maybe if you find someone cheap but good to do it

B & M Hammer install saftey switch

Hi can anyone tell me how to wire up the reverse and neutral safety switch for the B&M Hammer? Got everything else installed jsut fie but none of the instructions tell you what wires to splice the new switches into. Thanks 91

I had a Hammer shifter in my 91. It looked very nice and worked well, but got tired of listening to the wife complain about having to lift the lever to shift it.

I bought a B&M gate plate for my stock shifter and it works great, just like stock but will only let you upshift 1 gear at a time and for 25.00 I cant complain.

The only reason I would go back to a Hammer is for the looks.

Regarding install, its pretty easy and I think removing ther center console is almost a must so plan on removing the gauge cluster trim, and a few other parts to get the center console out. Definately not something I would pay to have done, just plan a few hours out of your day and you will get it.

I have one, and what a pain in the arse. Long story, but after 2 new cables, countless hours of adjusting, and a trip to the junkyard for a new mismatched door, the stocker is still in. I just could not get it to work through all the gears. Sucks, cause they look great, but I think I am going to get the gate plate mentioned above. Should be really easy, if you have the ignition interlock, it a bit more difficult.
