B&M Shifter Hook up

Well I have a universal B&M shifter that I was trying to hook up to my C4 tranny - that was untill I found out that I actually have a FMX tranny.

There was someone on here that was able to hook up their B&M shifter to their FMX - Has anyone else had any experience in doing this as well? I have all sorts of brackets, and just havent figured out to hook the cable up to the tranny - Everything basically works the same as it does on the C4 - with the one major exception of the shift pattern is reversed.

So I have the cable run correctly to compenstate for the reverse shifting.. Just need to find a way to hook the cable up to the tranny.

Any help would be great.

I have an FMX in my 72 coupe, and I had looked at B&M and Hurst for aftermarket shifters and even emailed their tech guys. They say they don't work with FMX, even the universal kit. There is another forum that is all ford transmissions that a while back someone fabricated parts to make a B&M shifter work, but he said it was more trouble than it was worth. Lokar does make a shift for the FMX tranny, but it isn't a musclecar looking shifter, it's more of a Hot Rod ( 32 roadster) looking shifter. See it here:

Your best bet is probably to just rebuild you factory shifter.

Of course if enough of us with FMX trannys bug B&M or Hurst maybe they will come up with a kit for us.

Could you flip the lever on the trans. upside down to make it work?

Thanks for the input guys..

I did look at flipping the lever around- but it looks like it's pressed on there somehow. But that is only 1/2 the proble. The other half if finding a spot to hook up a bracket to hold the cable (to make it push/pull) - There isn't a location or a bracket.. I think I may just swap out to a C4 - There prob. only around $200 or so used..

Thanks for the pics... .Im gonna try to get back under there with your pics and see what I can come up with. I dont think I have anyplace like yours to where I can mount a bracket to hold the cable. I'll take some shots today.
