Back fireing from the exhaust

I had hi-flow cats installed a few years ago and it looks like they about welded one of the smog hook-ups shut. I found this when I removed the pipes from the smog pump to the cats and the back firing stopped dead in it's tracks. When we cut these off the cats the pipe looked pretty well pinched shut on one of them from the inside.

Just throwing some info out there. :nice:

well I know its not that since I have an Off Road H Pipe :D

sorry to steal the thread but I have H/C/I, throttle body, gears, exhaust offroad H pipe, headers, CAI, etc etc. Mine backfires if I miss a gear once and a while and or if I just push on the gas in a lower gear for a second, stop do it again for a second, stop again for a second then it backfires once in a blue moon.

One time I was ripping and missed 2nd...there for rev'd it up real high as soon as I got it in 2nd and punched it, it backfired EXTREMELY LOUD....loudest thing I have ever heard haha, my car felt like it hopped up and shook I thought I broke my rear end, then I looked back and there was a big cloud of blackish smoke...my buddy was riding his bike behind me and said he felt it shoot him HAHAHA....is this very bad?! My car runs just as good (or better lol) after this event.

What should I do to help this?

After my recnet mods Ive been getting some back fireing from my exhuast when I get on it pretty hard, is this an indication of a rich or lean condition?
What mods? If you've fiddled with the valvetrain it could be a too-tight lifter holding an exhaust valve open.
