Back on this block ID thing

Dont want to beat a dead horse but my cars build date is 22H which should be august 22 1964. Would my car have a 65 block with 6 bolts for tranny or a 64 with 5 bolts. Found a supplier with rebuilt long blocks for both years ( used auto engines.com)?

You car could have had either, the model year begins/ends around that time of the year. If you now have a 66 block, then your transmission will have a 6 bolt bell.

Yes that it does. Did they actually start 65 castings in late 64? All exterior components are stamped 5A.... so I suppose I should stay with a 65 block. Do you know if Ford or anyone has records on when this switch took place? Also on the engine web site they list their ID on blocks like this C5AE-B or D or H I assume this tells me the month but would a C5AE-H for instance mean August of 64 or August of 65. Did I explain this right?

No, the suffix on the casting # indicates the level of change to the original casting, not the month the part was produced.The date code is right next to the casting # on the block ( think I've already posted it, but its a number/letter/number combination) And yes, 65 model year castings/parts/forgings could have been produced in 1964. For a more detailed explaination of Ford's production of the Mustang, the only source I can think off off hand is Marti Autoworks ( not sure here, just what I can recall) The guy's name is Kevin Marti, he supposedly has Ford's production records of the early Stangs.

Marti reports only go back to 1967. Ford destroyed the records from earlier dates, so a lot of the info on 65-66s is pure guesswork.
