Backfires.. how to adjust timing ?

i have the same question. I have an o/r h w/ stock C/B. I don't think it's so much of backfiring as just popping during deceleration. People tell me this is due to the absence of cats and unburnt fuel is popping in the pipes. However i've heard plenty of mustangs w/ o/r pipes that don't do this. Does this have something to do w/ stock catback? Exhaust leak maybe?

Some decell pop and some don't due the differences in combos causing some to have a/f ratios too fat at the moment of decell.

I've had it ever now and then depending upon what parts were used at the time.

I've found the GT is more prone to do it than the Cobra due to how the pcm is setup.

There are fuel shut off adjustments and the like that can be adjusted if you get inside the pcm.

I don't know how you could dial back the fuel to try and kill it without possibly hurting yourself in other areas of the tune with mechanical means

I myself don't care for it but I've seen others who say they like how it sounds.

I like the sound aswell, but some guy told me backfires like in the video is killing my engine, that it doesnt like it... Is it true ?

not true.

it may also be leaks in the exhaust after the muffler that will suck in air and make a popping noise.

is your exhaust welded or did you just use clamps that came with the kit?

if it is clamped, get someone to weld it up and most of that will go away.

Not sure I didn't installed it but i know they repalace alot of parts because of rusts so i'm pretty sure it's weld up... But I may have some exhaust leaks in the mufflers, i'll have to check it out.

I like the sound of the backfires anyway, it sounds badass... Some guys told me it was dangerous for the engine that's why I asked... I'm glad it's not.

Any other inputs ? :nice:

Like said above, that is NOT backfire. That is exhaust pop. I have heard some Corvettes with only mild exhaust mods do the exact same thing.

If you like that sound, the don't worry about it.
