Well it's pretty obvious you guys need Turbonators. I'm running 6 of them right now and am pulling around 43 MPG and that's with running WOT every drive.

I can't believe I did not think of that yet.

About 3 tanks ago I got 13mpg, the next tank I got 16. Now I get 11.

Um, there is something wrong when slow driving with our cars nets 10-14mpg. There are plenty of people on here with HCI stangs getting around 20mpg, and we are just trying to fix our problem.
BTW Great advice! We'll just ignore it! YES!

I am not trying to give you bad advice, but what some people don't realize is that fuel economy is like a "bell curve" from High School days. The people that get the best mileage are those under the curve who drive 60 mph on the highway. If you increase your speed you'll get worse fuel mileage...just as if (which many don't know) you drive too slow you will also decrease your fuel mileage. For argument sake let your car idle on the driveway for a couple of hours. It sure will burn a lot of gas but your fuel mileage will be zilch because you haven't moved. All i was saying in my previous thread was that babying the car by driving like a granny may actually reduce gas mileage. All you can basically do to get optimal fuel mileage is keep the car tuned, change the filters regularly, and stick to the speed limit with car in fifth gear or OD. Sorry for any confusion.

Well after cleaning the MAF I picked up 6 more MPG. I think the K&N Filter might have coated the MAF sensor. It looked pretty clean but apparently it made a diffrence.

Also start running 87 octane and your MPG will get better.

Like everyone else said, try cleaning your maf/Iat again to correct the surging......but you might need to do a full tune-up on the plugs/wires/cap/rotor. Check em out.

I have the exact same problem as you. I'm running rich as well, and the occational surge. Sometimes when I first start my car it just dies. Theres backfire, and hesitation.

Although my pinging is still a problem, I found out my stock gas gauge is pretty retarded. Im getting 15-17 in city traffic on 89 octane.

My start up surge I have attributed to the stereo system that I had put in the car. If I start the car after forgetting to turn the stereo off it causes the car idle to surge and die (until I give it gas).

I have no idea about the pinging but until I figure that out im putting 93 octane in.
