I saw this Ford Racing water pump online and bought it b/c it looked pretty decent. It had the Ford logo on it as well. It looks pretty decent, right? Here's what the pic online looked like:

I got it in the mail and below is what it looked like. Instead of a Ford logo on it, it had a cheap white sticker that said "FoMoCo". What the?

Anyone else experience something like this? Pic looks one way but then you get the bait and switch?

while you'll probably have no problem returning the product, the fine print somewhere might also include a disclaimer w/ regard to the pic not being an actual representation of the one being offered.

I've been thinking about ordering one of the Ford Racing water pumps the past few days. That sucks to see some company pull a fast one on you. Hopefully it wasn't from one of the outfits I've been looking at ordering from.

What you received is an import unit. The reason I know is because Ford hired my former Company to make them (also remanufactured units). The new Ford units come from my former Company which buys them from China and Mexico. Ford does not make any parts anymore (GM, Chrysler, etc. also the same). It's really not bait and switch. It is a Ford part, appearance may differ but built the same way. The unit you received was made in China or Mexico brand new (not from Ford) and because many Euro units do not have the Ford logo stamped they added a sticker.

I'd suggest going to Auto Zone, O'Reilly, etc. and buying a GMB new unit for $38. It comes with a Lifetime Warranty and looks 10 times nicer than the one you received.

Yeah, that sucks, but VibrantRed is right. And some of this stuff doesn't just look cheap, it actually is. The transmissions in some of the S-197s are shredding.

I recently ordered the FRPP M-8501 water pump ($40) from LRS. Not sure where it's made but it looked a hell of lot better than that one. I'd definitely return that one and get the FRPP one.

Just noticed you did order the FRPP water pump. I'd still return it.

If it's in the budget, you might want to upgrade. Maybe Edelbrock or something?

The only bait and switch i get is when the guy who runs the speed shop says "hey man come over and hang out" and i come over only to buy a bunch of crap i don't need.

Oh and i've always used parts store water pumps. Never had a problem with them. Got one on my stroker right now.

Sorry, not gonna put that junk on my car. Sold it already on CL. Easier than shipping back. I still think it's bait and switch. If that's the pic you're displaying of your product then that's what I should be getting. Pretty straight forward to me.

I replaced my gmb water pump with a edelbrock victor series water pump. The quality of the edelbrock is way better than the gmb japanese pump that was on my engine when i bought it. The bearing is stronger and the paddles or fins are stronger and slightly curved to move the water better without cavitation inside the pump. The only thing with the edelbrock is, it's more expensive.

Dammit. I got my FR water pump in a couple days ago to put on the new build. Saw this and went and opened the box. I got the same pump as you Citmov.

It is the same casting as the one that started to leak after 6K miles grr.

Sorry Lars! A little too late. Should've put this up earlier. I just splurged and went with the high flow Edelbrock. Summer heat+black car+A/C means I gotta keep my engine as cool as possible.

I used to have a real Ford Racing hi flow water pump that I picked up for $50 bucks! But I ended up selling it b/c I needed cash. Wish I still had it.

Yeah, its a bummer. I just ordered an Edelbrock pump also, being 5X the price of the FMS pump kinda hurts, but I have way too much tied up into this build to cheap out now on a sub standard part.
