Hmm-gotcha. Well, if you plan on pulling the crank out, check the casting number. 2M = 28oz; 2MA, or 2MAE = 50oz...
If you plan on throwing in a stroker crank, all the kits I know of use a 28oz imbalance unless, (1) you "0" balance it with mallory metal...a good idea, but time consuming and expensive, or (2) drill the hell out of it for 50oz...which I've seen that before, but I wouldn't really recommend going that way.
im not really shure if i am going stroked yet, i still need to see if i can fix the old crank. i tried removed the harmonic balance bolt and it was comeing hard. so i called the guy who i had build my motor a few years ago (big mistake) and he said you need an impact to remove it because of the locktight he put on it. so last night i put the impact on it and got the bolt out. i looked the the bolt and it was all messed up, missing threads, and . no locktight to be seen. so if i can run a tap down in the crank and save it i will go with that, if not i am going for a stroker. another question, can i run the same pistons from a stock crank and with the stroked? i know i need rods but do i need pistons too?
o yea and the engine builder had put a 50oz weight on the balancer on my 1980 block and crank. i think it is time to mess with this guy, any good ideas?
If you run a stroker crank, you have to match the pistons and rods...FWIW, threads in the crank can be repaired with helicoils or keenserts (thread inserts).
If he put a 50oz balancer on an 80 engine, the crank may've been replaced. Did it run really harsh? If you mismatch the balancer, trust me, you'll know it...it shakes the whole damn car.
well when i installed tghe flywheel i had the 50oz weight on it, i started the car and it did shake like crazy, so i pulled the 50 off and put the 28oz on and it was much better. but that was on the flywheel, the balancer i never touched till i pulled it off and found the 50 on there, it did shake a little at high rpms
Since it was at the machine shop I think you need to check with your machinest and find out what he did when he balanced it with the new pistons.... this is not an area to "guess".

well i was able to run a tap dont anf get the threads cleaned out. just need a new bolt, no big deal, but just because you have me interested, how much would the stroker kit you are talking about cost me? i have around a 600$ budget
